Acupuncture is an age-old medicine that is commonly used to treat pain as well as strengthen the body's immune system. It is a natural way to help prevent disease, and a wonderful complement to western medicine.
Acupuncture is the placement of tiny needles in the affected areas and some distal points on other areas of the body. When a person experiences an injury or pain, the body's natural defense is to produce lactic acid to heal the injury. When lactic acid is present, blood flow and "qi" are blocked from passing through the affected area or meridian. This blockage causes pain and restricts movement of the body's natural flow of energy or "qi". The placement of the acupuncture needles into designated points causes the "qi" and blood to begin to move freely throughout the area, relieving pain and restoring the free flow of "qi". Free flow of blood and "qi" is imperative for healthy muscles and joints.
